Ruben Amorim Could Hand Out a Man United Debut in FA Cup Fixture vs Fulham

Manchester United are set to host Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round, hoping to keep their dreams of defending the title alive. With a recent 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town, Erik ten Hag’s squad is eager to build momentum and secure a place in the quarter-finals.

Wing-Back Concerns for Ruben Amorim

With Patrick Dorgu serving the first game of his three-match suspension, Amorim faces a serious challenge in the wing-back department. Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot are the only available options, making them almost certain starters on the flanks.

Neither player has fully adapted to Amorim’s demanding 3-4-2-1 system, which requires high-intensity runs and precise width play. Dorgu’s absence is a significant setback, exposing the need for reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

Building Momentum is Key

United’s inconsistency has been a recurring theme this season. Every time they appear to gain traction, setbacks quickly follow. The recent win over Ipswich, though far from perfect, demonstrated the squad’s fighting spirit.

A third consecutive home victory would be a major confidence boost. The FA Cup remains United’s last shot at silverware this season, emphasizing the importance of progressing to the next round.

United Must Reclaim Old Trafford as a Fortress

United’s home form has been a major concern, with seven losses at Old Trafford this season. If they want to move forward, they must reestablish dominance on their home turf.

Fulham, however, will not be an easy opponent. Since losing to United on the opening day of the season, they have suffered only two away defeats in regulation time across all competitions. With four consecutive away wins, Marco Silva’s men will arrive with confidence.

Squad Rotation is a Necessity

With five fixtures in just 15 days, squad rotation will be unavoidable. Unfortunately, injuries and suspensions have left United with limited options, forcing Amorim to rely on academy players.

One potential debutant is Ayden Heaven, an 18-year-old center-back signed in January. He has made the bench for the last four games and could finally get his first-team opportunity. With Lisandro Martinez out for the season, overworking Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Harry Maguire is not an option.

Late Drama is Almost Certain

Meetings between United and Fulham often feature late-game excitement. Seven of their last eight encounters have produced goals beyond the 75th minute.

In their previous FA Cup clash in March 2023, United overturned a 1-0 deficit in the final 15 minutes, securing a 3-1 victory. Fans can expect another thrilling contest at Old Trafford.

With the stakes high and both teams eager for victory, this FA Cup battle promises to be a must-watch showdown.
